Draft Agreement : withdrawal of the UK from the EU
The draft agreement. Withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community has now been published. A copy of the draft agreement is available from the BIFA (British International Freight Association) website. Their is also a separate explainer document of 26 pages which should be read in conjunction.
For freight forwarders this is the first real indication on how the withdrawal from the EU is going to look. This will form the basis of our future trade agreements after March 2019. This doesn’t just include the UK as many think of it but all separate UK sovereign territories around the world.
There is a parliamentary meaningful vote set for the 11th December so more to follow on this. The meaningful vote has now been pushed back. Further assurances are being sought on the Backstop agreement. A new date should be forthcoming once the backstop assurances have been agreed. Basically an assurance that this agreement is temproary.
