DNATA cargo and East Midlands Airport

DNATA has closed it’s doors on cargo at East Midlands airport. The service was suspended back in April 2020 in response to the downturn in business as a result of COVID19. They have now officially announced the facility will not open with a permanent closure from October 2020. This continues the consolidation of airline handling agents facilities across the UK.

How to deliver cargo to DNATA

All import and export cargo destined for East Midlands terminates at Birmingham Airport (BHX). This will continue as the closest DNATA cargo facility to East Midlands. DNATA have seen this working successfully since April 2020.

East Midlands Airport and cargo

East Midlands airport is one of the busiest cargo airports in the UK. Small parcel and post services UPS, DHL, TNT and Royal Mail have hubs at East Midlands. Courier and postal hubs operate independently so the closure of DNATA does not affect these. Scheduled passenger flights carrying cargo with DNATA contracts will be. This is a further blow to the MAG group who own East Midlands Airport. Coming after the closure of Terminal two due to a lack of flights arriving at Manchester airport.

Swissport Cargo still operate at East Midlands Airport. Airlines with Swissport contracts continue to operate as normal.
